Will solar actually lower my JPS bill?
Yes — a correctly sized system removes most of the JPS charge for a typical Jamaican household, usually 60–80% of the monthly bill based on the 240+ installs we have completed since 2024. The exact figure depends on how much of your power you use during daylight, not on roof size or panel count alone. The honest way to know your number is to model your own JPS bill, which is why we do that before quoting.
Where the savings actually come from
Most of your saving is not from selling power to JPS — it is from not buying it in the first place. Every kilowatt-hour your panels produce while your house is using it is a kilowatt-hour you do not pay JPS the ~JMD 45.78 (~US$0.29) retail rate for. That offset of your own daytime use is the engine of the payback.
This is why two houses with identical roofs can see very different savings. A home that runs AC, a pool pump, or a home office through the day captures far more of its own production than a house that is empty until 6pm. We look at when you use power, not just how much.
What net billing does and doesn't do
When you produce more than you are using, the surplus flows to JPS and you are credited — but not at the retail rate. JPS pays an 'avoided cost' wholesale rate plus a 15% renewable premium, which is well below the ~JMD 45.78 you pay to buy power back. So exporting is a bonus, not the plan.

No. A grid-tie system with no battery already cuts the bill by offsetting daytime use. A battery adds outage backup and lets you use stored solar at night — it improves savings but the bill reduction starts without it.
